Roy Williams and the North Carolina Tar Heels suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of Villanova in the national championship game Monday night. As part of his duties as the head coach of the losing team, Williams did a post-game interview with Tracy Wolfson right after the amazing finish to the contest.

Like Williams or not, the interview in the video above is heartbreaking. He was the picture of class in defeat, giving all the credit to Villanova, but man you can tell the guy is really hurting. He clearly almost breaks down several times.

Williams opened with the following statement, which really hits you in the heart:

"“You know Tracy, I’ve been a head coach for 28 years and the worst thing is, on a loss like this I feel so inadequate, because I don’t know how to make it better.”"

Oh man. That hurts.

He capped it off with the following:

"“The hurt will never go away. But we gotta see and understand that we did some good things to get here and still have a chance at the end.”"

Kudos to Williams for the way he handled what had to be the most crushing defeat of his coaching career.
