The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Houston Astros, 6-4. For the second time, a game ended on the new slide rule. This one should prove even more than the first.

With runners on the corners and one out, Jose Altuve tapped a ball to second baseman Scooter Gennett. Gennett’s throw to shortstop Jonathan Villar barely beat Colby Rasmus. Villar did not attempt a throw to first because he had no shot to get the speedy Altuve.

Rasmus, however, overslid second base and was correctly called for interference under the new rules, meaning Altuve was also out and the game ended.

So we now know the new rule doesn’t require a defender to even make an attempt to get the second out. We also now there’s no room for common sense.

Reigning Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel spoke for many by wondering what sport this guys are playing now.

…I don’t know the answer.
