High School Goalkeeper Lays Out Opponent
By Tully Corcoran
We’re all used to seeing slide tackles and flops in soccer. Less common are all-out football tackles that make an unlucky striker look like a punt returner that should have called for a fair catch.
Such was the case between Pine Forest and Pinecrest in North Carolina girls soccer on Thursday, when goalkeeper Cassie Sturtz straight-up demolished Riley Barrett at the end of a 4-1 loss.
Incredibly, Sturtz wasn’t penalized at the time, though she now faces a two-game suspension for a hit that might very well have gotten her ejected from a college football game.
