Did the Rams Really Wait to Announce a Trade for the #1 Pick So Kobe Could Have His Moment?

Did the Los Angeles Rams hold off on announcing a trade for the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft so that Kobe Bryant could have the spotlight all to himself?

That certainly sounds like utter nonsense thrown out by a league employee. Why would the NFL, the thirstiest professional sports league in the world, pass up an opportunity to steal attention from the Warriors going for 73 wins and Kobe Bryant’s final game? They have a long and distinguished record of dumping news when people are away from their computers and announcing trivial, but sometimes interesting, tidbits on days where other sports have something going on. So why would they miss an opportunity to be the lead story? They wouldn’t.

If this trade really was agreed to yesterday, the NFL could have agreed to hold off on the news to steal headlines today.

Kobe Bryant just scored 60 points in the final game of his Hall of Fame career and all people are going to be talking about in Los Angeles is which quarterback Rams will take with the first pick in the NFL Draft.

Instead of talking about the Golden State Warriors winning the most games in NBA history, they’ll be talking about the theoretical bright future of the Tennessee Titans.

Instead of blogs and talking heads screaming about the upcoming NBA Playoffs, they’ll be talking NFL as we head into the upcoming NFL schedule drop.

Plus, Jeff Fisher and the Rams just put some goodwill in the bank by claiming they wanted to let Kobe shine. This is a team that understands stars! And with the #1 pick they will get a brand new one to replace the void left by Kobe Bryant!

The NFL wins again – even when it pretends to let someone else.
