Myles Jack's Knee Is Worrying Some Teams, Muddying Top of Draft
Myles Jack reportedly got some negative feedback from the medical recheck on his knee Friday. Some teams are apparently concerned with the slow rate of healing in the torn lateral meniscus he suffered in September.
The fact that Jack isn’t back to 100 percent after more than six months is a concern and some apparently think there could be long-term problems as a result. I feel compelled to inform you, dear reader, that I’m not a doctor. So I can’t tell you whether or teams should be worried, but I will say when it comes to top draft picks, NFL teams are highly conscious of injury risks.
If you remove injury concerns I have Jack as the third-best player on the 2016 NFL Draft board behind Florida State cornerback/safety Jalen Ramsey and Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. The UCLA linebacker is a stud who just repeatedly makes plays all over the field. He’s instinctive, hard-hitting and fast enough to run sideline-to-sideline. On tape, Jack looks like a perennial Pro Bowler, but that was before his knee injury.
Some teams will likely dismiss any concerns with the knee this late in the process. If they’ve decided he’s definitely worth a top 10 pick, I don’t expect them to change their minds at this point because of worries over a slow rate of healing.
Bottom line, this news puts general managers with picks in the top 10 in a tough spot. You never want to be the guy who passed up an All-Pro when you were on the clock. The flipside is that ignoring warning signs and making a bad pick could land you out of a job shortly thereafter.
