The NBA’s salary cap is about to make a huge jump for the 2016-17 season. According to USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt, the cap will go from $70 million for this season, to a whopping $92 million next year.

The league’s $24 billion television deal is the reason for such a big increase, but no one thought it would go that high this fast.

While this is only a projection, it probably isn’t that far off. The league will officially set the cap in July, and the fact that the league office sent out a memo notifying teams of such a high projection is big news. Franchises can now start planning out their 2016-17 rosters with that cap number in mind.

The Los Angeles Lakers will likely enter the offseason with the most cap space, but the Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics should be in the mix as well. Those teams will now have even more money to work with.

The cap is also expected to rise to somewhere between $107 million to $110 million for the 2017-18 season, meaning teams are going to be handing out some absurd contracts over the next two years.
