Stephen Curry Getting MRI on His Ankle, NBA and TV Networks Collectively Begin Praying

Three letters that can potentially derail a historic NBA season: MRI. That’s a test Stephen Curry will undergo today on his right ankle to determine what the heck is wrong. Curry stepped awkwardly – but it didn’t look bad – in the 3rd quarter of Game 1 of the playoffs Saturday, and missed Game 2 Monday night. Golden State won both without him.

"“It’s the back of his foot,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after Curry missed Game 2. “It’s underneath the ankle. It’s something down there.”"

I’m not a doctor, but I play one sometimes on twitter. You know what stretches right near the back of the ankle, right? The Achilles. That’d be absolute worst case scenario. But it’s obviously not torn or he wouldn’t have been able to walk or jog or warm up Monday night.

So what is it? A sprain? Something else? Golden State probably can finish a 2-0 lead over the Rockets without Curry – it might take 6-7 games, and yes, I’m aware of how bad Houston looks – but it’d need him against the Clippers.

You can be certain everyone in the NBA is praying Curry’s injury isn’t severe. The greatest regular season in NBA history – 73-9 – and then not being able to cap it with a title, or even a trip to the Finals, would be terrible for the league.

Curry is the NBA’s #1 draw now, and a rematch against the Cavs and LeBron is what everyone wants.

UPDATE: Phew…
