The White Sox turned the rare 9-3-2-6-2-5 triple play against the Rangers. How in the world does that happen? Well, it starts with Prince Fielder being the lead runner, with bases loaded and nobody out. Mitch Moreland hit a fly ball to right field. Ian Desmond, on first, got too far off the bag, and had to hurry back when the throw came into first. (Fielder meanwhile, wasn’t tagging on the play, yet). Desmond got back, but went past the base, and was eventually tagged out.

In that confusion, Adrian Beltre started to advance from second, when Prince started down the line but stopped. The throw went home, then back behind Beltre, and then finally back home before the tag was made on Fielder at third base.

Yikes. The Rangers have been shutout so far. It’s not your night when you can’t get a run with bases loaded and nobody out.
