Tiger Woods May Return for 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont
By Michael Shamburger
Tiger Woods was last seen at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley where he looked healthy hitting his irons and driver. Woods hasn’t played in a tournament since the Wyndham Championship, where he contended for a few days and finished tied for 10th. He then had multiple back surgeries and said he had no timetable for returning to the sport.
Now we learn via Golfweek, that Woods has registered for the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. Woods, who is exempt thanks his 2008 U.S. Open win at Torrey Pines, needed to register by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, April 4th. He did so at 4:33 PM according to the USGA. His registration does not necessarily mean that he will play though.
Woods almost won the U.S. Open in 2007 at Oakmont, but finished one stroke behind Angel Cabrera.
Tim Rosaforte has also speculated that Tiger may play in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow or at THE PLAYERS Championship.
Hopefully Tiger’s back has fully healed by the time he makes his return, because he appears to be walking a little gingerly after the swing below.
