Tom Brady Suspension Back On [UPDATED]

Tom Brady’s four-game suspension for what the NFL says was “more probable than not” knowledge of deflated footballs is back, according to this report from Reuters:

Dan Wetzel adds:

Note that this ruling does not hinge on a judgment of whether Tom Brady has actually been implicated for a role in football deflation – the NFL’s evidence of that is dubious, and four games is an excessive punishment even if he stuck the needle in himself – but that Roger Goodell has the right within the league’s collective bargaining agreement to discipline.

In March, Brady, presumably recognizing that this was a possibility, restructured his contract in a way that would save nearly $2 million in lost contract during the weeks he misses.

It’s unclear exactly what Brady’s next legal steps will be, but an appeal to the Supreme Court would not be surprising given the lengths he’s gone to up to this point in defending himself. Last month, SI.com’s Michael McCann detailed the possibility and implications of what that step would entail.
