Pablo Sandoval is done for the season. According to the Boston Globe, the Boston Red Sox’s high-priced backup third baseman will have surgery on his left shoulder performed by Dr. James Andrews.

Sandoval, who lost his starting job to a guy who will make $17 million less than him this season, has had just 7 plate appearances in a total of 3 games. In those 7 PA, Sandoval struck out 4 times and had more belts come undone at the plate (1) than hits (0). The Red Sox will pay Sandoval the entirety of his $17.6 million salary this season.

Just three more seasons (after this one) before the Red Sox can buy out the final year of his horrific contract.

Sandoval leaves behind a team that is 15-10 and currently in first place in the AL East.
