The Macon Telegraph’s Bill Shanks wrote a column calling for the Atlanta Braves to bring back mascot Chief Noc-A-Homa and resurrect a teepee in the bleachers.

It briefly appeared on the newspaper’s website before someone realized it was a take too hot for 2016.

The link on Shanks’s tweet brings readers to a piece comparing the woeful 1988 and 2016 Braves.

Daniel Shirley, sports editor at the Telegraph, claims the piece disappeared because Shanks had “a better idea for a column.”

That’s a true statement. Almost any other column idea would have been better. Or, at the very least, resulted in less negative backlash.

The 2016 Braves team finishing worse than the 54-106 record posted in 1988 is a safer bet than mascot and teepee returning. Just a hunch.
