Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, and Hideki Matsuyama had something very interesting happen to them during the first round of the Wells Fargo Championship. As McIlroy was hitting on the par-3 sixth hole, a man threw a golf ball with an ear plug attached to it. Luckily the ball didn’t hit anyone and the fan was quickly escorted off of the premises by police.

Afterwards Fowler and McIlroy spoke to the media about the incident.

"Via AP: “So random,” Fowler said. “The guy tried to say it was a gift. I don’t know why you would give a gift of a golf ball with an earplug attached to it.”"

Yeah, I’d say that’s pretty random.

"“It was one of those things,” McIlroy said. “It was a golf ball with an ear plug stuck on it, so it was sort of strange.” “Charlotte’s finest sorted it out and got him off the property, thankfully.”"

While I have no idea why you would throw a golf ball towards a player during a PGA Tour event in the first place, I definitely can’t think of any reason to throw a golf ball with a freaking ear plug attached to it at anyone.

Weird.
