Bryce Harper has been suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions during Monday night’s Washington Nationals win over the Detroit Tigers.

During the game, Harper was ejected for jawing at umpire Brian Knight from the dugout. After the Nationals wound up winning via walk-off in the bottom of the ninth, the 23-year-old ran out on to the field to celebrate with his teammates. As he approached the celebration huddle, he was clearly seen yelling to get Knight’s attention, pointing at him and saying, “Hey, f*** you!”

Harper will appeal the suspension but I sincerely doubt he wins his case. After the game he was completely unapologetic for his actions.

I like Harper and fully embrace his attempting to “Make Baseball Fun Again” attitude. In fact, I’m all for him being a bit of a brusque jerk at times, since baseball needs those guys to pop up every now and then. He’s basically this generation’s Ted Williams, while Mike Trout plays the role of the media darling like Mickey Mantle.

That said, Harper can’t expect to curse out umpires in full view of cameras and expect that to be OK with Major League Baseball. He earned every bit of this suspension and is lucky it wasn’t more severe.
