Russell Knox was working his way up the leaderboard on Saturday during the third round of The Players Championship. Knox managed to climb up to seven-under and then he arrived at the par-3 17th and disaster struck.

Knox’s first tee shot came up short of the green and splashed down in the water. Knox decided to re-tee and hit again.

SHANK!

Knox’s second shot was even worse than the first and found the water again.

So for a third straight time, Knox re-teed and for a third straight time, he missed the green.

Sometimes the 17th can be absolutely brutal. Knox walked away with a nine and took it all in stride.

"“I ended up making an awesome putt for 9. After I was walking through the tunnel (toward the 18th tee) I was like, `Whoa, that was to avoid a 10.’ … It’s a different story once you’ve hit two in a row in the water. The green felt like it was the size of a quarter…. Until you’re in that position, you don’t understand what it feels like.”"

Also, remember how Will Wilcox made the first hole-in-one on the 17th in 14 years? I’ll give you one guess how his next attempt went.

SPLASH!
