WWE's Kane "Seriously Considering" Running for Mayor of Knox County

Kane, whose real name is Glenn Jacobs, told the NBC affiliate KBIR that he is “seriously considering” making a run for mayor of Knox County in 2018. In addition to performing as a wrestler, Kane owns an insurance brokerage – I did not know this, and can’t fathom how he has the time to hold both those jobs in addition to raising two children; does he ever sleep?! – in the area.

“My political philosophy is the ‘smaller the better,” he told the station. “Government should stay out of the way and let free enterprise do what it does best. … I think at this point, the fact that someone doesn’t have a lot of political experience is a plus. … We’re seeing that in the presidential election. People are tired of business as usual, they’re tired of politicians.”

The stereotypical thing would be to write a kicker about Kane chokeslamming his debate opponents, but nah we’re not gonna do that.

There is some history of pro wrestlers becoming politicians – former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura obviously comes to mind (and he has said he once talked Ric Flair out of running for governor of North Carolina); Bob Backlund also once ran for Congress. Kane’s got a lottttt of mileage on his body – he’ll be 50 next April – and it’ll be interesting to see whatever he pursues when he’s done with WWE.

Correction: The headline originally said Knoxville, as opposed to Knox County
