Dustin Johnson made 10 birdies in the first round of the Memorial Tournament. That’s right, DJ had the putter working. He finished up his opening round at Muirfield Village with an eight-under 64 and held a one-stroke lead over Brendan Steele entering the second round. After his round was over, DJ was still getting asked about Chambers Bay and he delivered the most appropriate answer he could to the media.

Via CBS:

"“I don’t know if anyone’s aware of it, but I’ve played 20 freaking tournaments since Chambers Bay,” Johnson said defiantly after his round. “It’s not that I’ll be OK. I am OK. I mean, I’m playing the Memorial. So I’ve got a lot of other things to worry about than the U.S. Open. I’ll worry about it when I get there.”"

I think we’ve established that emotionally, Dustin Johnson is ok. We can probably ask him about more important things like whether or not he thinks he can close out after a first round lead.

Since his three putt on the 72nd hole at Chambers Bay in the U.S. Open that gave Jordan Spieth the opportunity to win a second straight major, Johnson has played in three majors, in two of them he finished in the top 10 and in one of them, the Masters this year, he finished tied for fourth. He has 10 top 10 finishes in his last 19 events (excluding the President’s Cup which the U.S. won).

It’s time to move on.
