Ian Poulter, America’s favorite European Ryder Cup member, is going to be sidelined for at least four months. The 40-year-old Poulter has been suffering from arthritic issues in his right foot and even though he has made nine of 13 cuts, he has missed two straight. His best finish this season is a tie for third at the Puerto Rico Open.

Poulter, who started the year ranked 56th in the world, is now ranked 85th in the world and 42nd on the European points list and is serious jeopardy of not making the European Ryder Cup team of which he’s been a part of in the last five events. In those five Ryder Cup appearances, Poulter has a record of 12-4-2.

"“I am obviously disappointed to be in this situation, especially during a Ryder Cup year,” Poulter said. “Right now, rest and rehab take priority in me returning to full strength later this season. I look forward to resuming a full schedule as soon as I am able.”"

While this is bad news for the European team, and we don’t wish ill on Poulter despite his crazy antics and ability to get into the heads of his American opponents, it’s not bad news for the U.S. team.

The Ryder Cup will take place from September 30th to October 2nd at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
