The Miami Marlins Were Somehow First to Report Muhammad Ali's Death
By Kyle Koster
The Miami Marlins posted a photo of Muhammad Ali on their video board Friday night at 10:05 ET indicating that the boxing great had died.
At that time, no other media outlet had reported Ali’s death. The official announcement didn’t come until two hours later. This led many to believe the tribute was premature.
Marlins president David Samson said he was working off reliable information.
"“It was not an error,” [he] said. “We were informed by someone close to the family that he had passed away. We wanted to get a tribute out as soon as we possibly could.”"
