Josh Naylor was selected by the Miami Marlins with the 12th pick in the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft. Stone Garrett was the Marlins 8th round pick in the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft. Naylor and Garrett are currently teammates with the Marlins single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers. They also share an apartment, which is where Naylor cut Garrett’s thumb with a knife.

Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill “termed the incident a prank gone bad, not a fight between the two players” according to the Sun-Sentinel. Hill really wanted to stress that this was just a prank.

"“Naylor has a reputation of being a bit of a prankster, but this one obviously went a little too far,” Hill said. “Obviously, he’s torn up about it. This is a good friend, his roommate. They came into pro ball together, so they’re good friends."

I’m not sure what kind of prank entails holding a knife near someone, but then again, I don’t have the reputation of being a bit of a prankster. I wonder how this will affect Naylor’s prank career?

"“I don’t think you’ll see Josh Naylor goofing around with knives any more. Other pranks were just pranks and nobody got hurt. Unfortunately, this one ended in an injury, which isn’t funny at all.”"

OK, so no more knives. That stinks. I assume that taking away knife pranks basically cuts the book of pranks in half. Hopefully, Naylor’s prank career can recover from this incident. Also, Stone Garrett’s hand. That will also hopefully recover. Garrett and Naylor are two of the Marlins top 4 prospects.
