Our staff at The Big Lead does many things well – mobilizes quickly on breaking news; unearths viral videos before they hit Facebook; offers nuanced, forward-thinking opinion – but many might say what we do best is cover the sports media. Even if it’s only a tiny sliver of the overall production of the site – we do an estimated 110 posts a week, with maybe 5-10 media posts weekly – it often is what gets mentioned in newspapers, on the radio, and on TV.

It became the site’s niche starting in late 2006, and since then we’ve strived to compete with the likes of mainstream media outlets when it comes to breaking sports media news.

None of that will change now that I’ve joined a sports television show at FS1. I personally haven’t written about Fox since I started a Fox Sports Radio show in September, 2015. Our site, however, has continued to cover Fox in the same way we cover NBC, CBS, the NFL Network and ESPN, be it a link in the roundup, or stand-alone posts (see here, here, here).

Brian Stelter (CNN) and Howard Kurtz (Fox News) are just a couple reporters who have paved the way for media coverage while also being a larger part of the television media landscape. Richard Deitsch (SI), also has shown that covering the media while working for a large print media outlet can be done with some distinction.

Speak for Yourself airs at 6 pm Monday-Friday on FS1 starting June 13th.
