Stephen Curry Had a Historically Good Bad Game, LeBron Was Just Historic

Stephen Curry had the worst 25-point, 7-rebound, 4-assists, 3-block performance in NBA Finals history on Monday. Seriously.

Of the 17 other times a player has accomplished that stat line in a Finals game – per Basketball-Reference – no one had a lower Game Score than Curry did last night. Coincidentally, the second highest Game Score for someone with that (25/7/4/3) as a minimum stat line was LeBron James last night.

As recently as last week, only 7 players in NBA history had ever accomplished that stat line in an NBA Finals game – Shaquille O’Neal (5x), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (2x), Tim Duncan (2x), Hakeem Olajuwon (2x), Kobe Bryant, Scottie Pippen, Larry Bird, and Dwyane Wade.

Steph did it in Game 5. LeBron did it in games 4 and 5. LeBron, Steph and Kobe Bryant are the only ones to attempt a 3-pointer while reaching that line. The line lacks the poetry of traditional milestone numbers like 0’s and 5’s, but it must be pretty difficult to accomplish if the only people who have ever done it in the Finals are either current or future Hall of Famers.

And speaking of historic performances, LeBron’s 41 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks turned into a Game Score of 39.2 – the second highest ever in a Finals game. That line was only topped by Tim Duncan’s 32/20/6/3/7 game in the ’03 Finals.

With that kind of stuff on his mind, it’s no wonder Curry looked so sad after the game.

He’s probably still sitting there right now. Still in his jers- Nope, wait. Here he is at the press conference. I guess he did get dressed. I think he’s good enough to bounce back from such a bad game.
