Dustin Johnson Wins the 2016 U.S. Open, Slams the Door on USGA Ruling
By Michael Shamburger
Dustin Johnson won the 2016 U.S. Open even after the USGA’s ridiculous controversy.
It’s been a long time coming for the 31-year-old Johnson. He’s finished tied for second in major championships twice before, most notably last year when the U.S. Open was at Chambers Bay, and he had a costly three-putt on the 72nd hole. He’s finished in the top 10 in a major championship 11 times prior to entering this U.S. Open. This year Johnson played spectacular during the first two rounds, then held on during the third round to stay within contention. On Sunday he took the lead back and slammed the door in the USGA’s face for assessing him a one-stroke penalty.
He’s over the hump, we can now move on from the “He can’t win the big one” narrative.
