Derrick Rose sounds close to becoming a Knick. The initial report came from Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania of Yahoo’s Vertical. Though this trade has been rumored for a week or two, its consummation would be a big deal. New Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek has made it clear that the Knicks need a point guard, which isn’t necessarily the most profound admission when Jose Calderon was atop the depth chart. Per the Chicago Tribune this is what the Bulls would get in return:

This is a very interesting deal. At times last year Derrick Rose looked like he had regained his MVP form, but it goes without saying that he has had trouble staying healthy in recent seasons. The Bulls did not make the playoffs this year, and needed to blow up their core. This move would certainly be the beginning of that.

Rose’s quotes can become bad headlines, which is a major potential pitfall in New York. However, he is a free agent after this upcoming season, so the Knicks aren’t tied to him forever if this doesn’t work out. There is high potential reward. It will obviously be worth monitoring what else these two teams do.
