It wouldn’t be a Houston Rockets offseason if there wasn’t a plausible-but-let’s-face-it-pretty-darn-unlikely scheme to land the marquee free agent of the moment.

This year it’s James Harden, who is going to reach out to his friend Kevin Durant and see how Durant feels about Tex-mex and municipal zoning laws.

"He’s one of my really, really good friends. I’m going to try and talk to him. He has a big decision. Obviously, I would love for him to play here in Houston, but ultimately he’ll make the best decision for his career."

Hey, it could happen!

Dwight Howard opted out of his contract, leaving Houston with gobs of cap space. Harden and Durant had a lot of success together in Oklahoma City and on the U.S. Olympic team. Texas has no state income tax. THESE ARE FACTORS.

On the other hand, the Oklahoma City Thunder just traded Serge Ibaka for Victor Oladipo, Ersan Ilyasova and Domantas Sabonis, the No. 11 pick in Thursday’s draft, so maybe Durant isn’t going anywhere after all.
