Italy Advance To Play Germany in Euro 2016 Quarterfinals

Spain had more talent. Italy were the better team. Graziano Pelle put the match on ice for the Azzurri with this stoppage time goal. The Italians are through to the semifinals with a 2-0 win, where they will play Germany.

The Germans have never beaten Italy in a tournament. Italy eliminated the Germans in the 2006 World Cup and at Euro 2012.

Though not surprising, it’s still a massive result for Italy. On paper, it seemed they were sending their least talented squad in the modern era. Soon to be Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has lived up to its reputation with a masterful tactical performance.

It will be a disappointment for Spain. They won the tournament in 2008 and 2012. They were third favorites entering it. But, much of that was the soft bracket they would have had, before losing to Croatia.
