Video: Melvin Upton Robs Home Run With Incredible Catch
Melvin Upton Jr. is having quite the comeback season and Tuesday night he showed off his rediscovered skills once again.
The 31-year-old homered in the bottom of the first, then made a ridiculous catch to take away a home run in the bottom of the second. J.J. Hardy hit a blast to dead center and Upton went far over the wall to snag the ball, landed quickly and launched a throw back to first base to double up Mark Trumbo.
Take a look:
That’s quite a catch. Upton made another great catch in the top of the third. At this point, the San Diego Padres outfielder is hitting .263 with 12 home runs, 37 RBI, a 1.7 WAR and is playing stellar defense in the outfield. He still has one of the worst contracts in baseball, but at least he’s becoming a serviceable player again.
