Lebron has opted out from his contract in Cleveland, but that’s not a surprise. It was expected. He’ll probably opt-out every summer for the rest of his career. So there’s not much to read into this, except one thing:

What happens now that Cavs owner Dan Gilbert has his title? What if Gilbert decides he doesn’t need to listen to LeBron the Coach/LeBron the GM/LeBron the Player? It seems unlikely, but we’re talking about a billionaire.

The Cavs have said they intend to keep Kevin Love; what if LeBron would rather have Dwyane Wade or Chris Paul or one of his other buddies? LeBron the GM has pulled all the right strings in the past two years. He has all the power in Cleveland. What LeBron wants, LeBron should get. And don’t make this about a few million more he can get from Cleveland than anywhere else. The King has a rumored billion dollar contract with Nike.

Dan Gilbert’s not going to let his ego get in the way, is he? Probably not. You’d hope.
