Alton Sterling was shot and killed by a Baton Rouge police officer while being restrained in the early hours of July 5, and many are up in arms about the incident. Two officers appeared to have Sterling restrained, but wound up shooting him after they discovered a gun on his person. The incident was captured on video by someone nearby (though it has been reported that the body cameras fell off the officers and that footage is unavailable) and the world has begun to react harshly. That includes several prominent athletes.

Colin Kaepernick took to Twitter to lament the repeated deaths of black men at the hands of police officers:

Houston Texans wide receiver Jaelen Strong didn’t mince words:

In a now-deleted tweet, Tyrann Mathieu — who spent his college years at LSU in Baton Rouge — said, “The violence is not new, it’s the cameras that are!”

Peter Rosenberg, a radio host for Hot 97 and 98.7 ESPN New York ripped into a police officer on his show over the shooting:

We’re fairly certain these will not be the last reactions to this shooting.
