Dallas Mavericks Learned Their Lesson, Handcuffed Harrison Barnes Until He Signed

The Dallas Mavericks believed they had a deal in place with free agent DeAndre Jordan last summer only to have everything fall apart before the NBA’s signing moratorium was over.

They weren’t about to let something similar happen with Harrison Barnes, so they did the only logical thing and slapped a pair of handcuffs on him until pen met paper.

The handcuffs were, of course, entirely unnecessary. Barnes is a nice player but must be ecstatic that a team agreed to pay him $94 million over four years. In fact, there are probably a few Golden State Warriors who wished they could have physically prevented Barnes from jacking three-pointers during the NBA Finals.

Receiving $23.5 million a season to be a complementary piece is great work if you can get it — and apparently is the new normal.
