Von Miller is not a fan of franchise tags. The 27-year-old reigning Super Bowl MVP has said he won’t play the 2016 season on a franchise tag and believes the various types of tags are a “league-wide problem.”

On Monday Miller had the following to say about the franchise tag:

"“No, I’m not gonna play on the franchise tag. It just doesn’t make sense in any way. I’ve never really played for money, it’s bigger than that for me. It’s a league-wide problem that I feel like I’m in a situation to help out with.”"

Miller would make $14 million from the Denver Broncos in 2016 under the franchise tag, but remains steadfast in his refusal to do so. He wants a new, long-term contract and claims he’s willing to miss the season to get one. Many players believe the franchise tag hurts top players who could make more money and ends up suppressing contracts in the end.

Miller and the Broncos have until Friday to agree to a new deal. After that he would have to either agree to play under the franchise tag or sit out the year.
