Wil Myers may not be able to escape San Diego alive after this one. The San Diego Padres All-Star first baseman has had a brilliant season and is quickly becoming the face of the franchise. But after what he said on Monday he may no longer be welcome in America’s Finest City.

During a media session, Myers claimed East Coast Mexican food was better than what could be found on the West Coast. Oh Wil, you silly, silly man.

The North Carolina native was blasted on Twitter for that proclamation and rightfully so. As a San Diego native who has lived all over the country, I can tell you that Myers is either joking, insane or trying to force a trade out of town. There is no other option.

Somebody better get ahold of Myers and take him to some of San Diego’s better Mexican joints in short order so he can change his mind. If he doesn’t, the Padres may need to get him round-the-clock security because San Diegans take this kind of thing very seriously.

After this comment it will be interesting to hear how Myers is welcomed when he’s introduced in front of his home fans during Tuesday night’s All-Star Game. He’ll be the National League’s starting designated hitter.
