With the news yesterday that Tom Brady’s request for a full review by the Second Circuit was denied, we are getting closer to the reality of Jimmy Garoppolo getting his first starts as a New England Patriot. (Sure, there is still the slim chance of the Supreme Court hearing the case, but it is very slim.)

Thus, we are going to get stories about Garoppolo getting ready, and how much progress he has made. Ultimately, we don’t know anything until he gets into live action. Could be the next backup just waiting for his chance to prove he is a starter. Could be the next guy to falter with that chance, or the next one to earn a big contract.

One thing that won’t tell us that yet is simply having an understanding of plays after being on the job for over two years, and knowing more people now than when he started.

Nevertheless, this ESPN piece uses as its evidence of his command that he knew where to tell a new tight end (Martellus Bennett) where to line up on a play. That would be a cause for concern if he didn’t know where the offense was supposed to be lining up in a controlled environment. “I know all the guys, the guys know me,” Garoppolo also stated, proving that he has been there longer than when he first arrived to a new job.
