The Golden State Warriors didn’t defend their NBA championship this year, but they still want to be paid like the best team in the league. The Warriors are reportedly asking for far more money than other teams to allow ads on their jerseys for the 2017-18 season. Now that they added Kevin Durant in free agency, the “Dubs” probably have the right to do that.

According to ESPN, the Warriors are asking for somewhere between $15 million and $20 million per year for advertising rights. The Philadelphia 76ers became the first team to sell advertising rights on their jerseys, inking a three-year deal with StubHub that will pay them $5 million a season.

Golden State now boasts two of the top five players in the NBA, with Stephen Curry and Durant both on the team. Throw in Klay Thompson and Draymond Green and you could argue the Warriors have four of the top 15 guys in the league. They just set the regular season wins record and lost in the the seventh game of the NBA Finals. They are easily the most visible, marketable team in basketball right now.

It will be fascinating to see how much the Warriors wind up getting for advertising rights on their jerseys, since there could wind up being a bidding war for those rights.
