Shawn Oakman was being investigated for a sexual assault in April. The accuser claimed he “forced” her into a bedroom, “forcibly removed” her clothing and sexually assaulted her. Oakman has been indicted by a grand jury for second-degree felony sexual assault.

Oakman had 46.5 tackles for loss over three seasons at Baylor. Expected to be a high NFL draft pick, he went undrafted in 2016 amidst the legal turmoil. His attorney gave the following statement.

"“I think an indictment is just a prosecutor’s rubber stamp and requires a much lower burden of proof than one required for a conviction, which is beyond a reasonable doubt,” said Michelle Tuegel, Oakman’s attorney. “We still have a lot of investigation and work to do in this case. Shawn maintains that the sex in this case was consensual.”"

Baylor’s head coach Art Briles, athletic director Ian McCaw, and president Ken Starr were deposed resulting from a broader scandal with Baylor’s handling of sexual assault accusations.
