VIDEO: Woman Rejects Cam Newton's Volleyball Spike with Authority

Cam Newton must walk a fine line when playing sports with normal human beings. If he exerts too much effort and takes things too seriously, then he’s a joyless try-hard. If he is too casual, then he runs the risk of having the moment he got punked by some Average Joe go viral.

The latter scenario could very well become a reality for the reigning MVP after this beach volleyball lowlight surfaced on Instagram. The 6-foot-6 Newton’s spike attempt was mightily rejected by a normal-sized Baltimore woman, much to the delight of everyone on the court.

It’s very easy to see where Newton went wrong. He did not go up and get the ball at its high point — something he probably learned from the Panthers lackluster receiving corp. His momentum was also taking him away from the net.

In short, it was a disaster.

If there’s a bright side, it’s the way Newton handled the moment. Unlike previous high-profile incidents, he was able to conduct himself with poise and humor.
