Tim Kaine, Who Went To Missouri, Roots For Kansas Basketball

Virginia senator Tim Kaine will join Hillary Clinton as VP on the Democratic Party presidential ticket. He has been a mayor, a lieutenant governor, a governor, a national leader within the Democratic Party, and a senator. He was the safe choice.

Not safe, his sports fandom. Kaine, a graduate of the University of Missouri, roots for Kansas basketball (HT Deadspin). Adults will remember those schools were once bitter rivals in sports. He does not root for Kansas football which – hard to believe this is less than a decade ago – was a concern when Virginia Tech played the Jayhawks in the Orange Bowl.

The sports world tends to be treacherous territory for politicians, President Obama excepted. Kaine’s running mate Hillary Clinton waffled hard over being both a Cubs and Yankees fan.

"“I alternated my affections because it was just too hard being a Cubs fan, only being a Cubs fan.”"

Carly Fiorina may have sealed her doom in the Republican Primary by abandoning her alma-mater Stanford to pander to Iowa fans during the Rose Bowl.
