Alex Bregman is finally getting his shot. The Houston Astros’ top prospect has been called up to the big leagues after laying waste to the minors since being selected with the second pick in the 2015 MLB Draft.

The LSU product has only increased his value since draft day and has looked ready for the big leagues all season. Baseball America listed him as the eighth-best prospect in baseball in its midseason rankings, and MLB.com has him at No. 18.

Bregman is far and away Houston’s top prospect and could play a number of positions moving forward. A shortstop by trade, the 22-year-old could play third base or even a corner outfield spot for the Astros down the stretch.

Bregman started the season in Double-A, where he hit .297 with 14 home runs, 46 RBI and a .975 OPS in 62 games. Since a promotion to Triple-A things have only gotten better. In 18 games for Fresno Grizzlies he has hit .333 with six home runs and 15 RBI and a 1.015 OPS. The kid has nothing left to prove in the minors and it was clearly time for a call-up.
