Nebraska senior punter Sam Foltz and former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler died in a car accident Saturday night while attending a kicking camp in Wisconsin, according to multiple published reports. LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye was also in the vehicle and hospitalized, according to a report from the Baton Rouge Advocate.
Foltz, 22, earned Big Ten punter of the year honors last season and was on the Ray Guy Award watch list. Sadler, 24, was a four-time Academic All-American during his career with the Spartans.
“Sam was universally loved and respected by everyone he touched and on whom he had a positive influence,” Cornhuskers coach Mike Riley said in a statement.
Riley and Nebraska players will not be attending Big Ten Media Days this week in wake of the tragedy.
Sadler was an immensely popular player with a strong social media following built with consistent humor.
