Was There a Ghost Hovering Over the Outfield at Minute Maid Park Last Night?
By Kyle Koster
Let’s start with what we know.
We know that ghosts are real and they can be anywhere at any particular time. We know that eerie formations like the one seen above are a tell-tale sign that a ghost is present. We know that ghosts have a strong connection to the game of baseball thanks to Field of Dreams.
What we don’t know is if there was actually a ghost hovering over the outfield during Tuesday night’s New York Yankees-Houston Astros game. Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal seemed open to the idea.
The fact that the possible apparition moved is fairly convincing pro-ghost evidence. Everyone knows ghosts like to move around and hate staying in one spot for too long.
Not all are convinced a ghost was floating around Minute Maid Park during the 6-3 Yankees’ win. Astros media relations coordinator Chris Peixoto said that what Diamond saw was simply residual smoke from celebratory fireworks set off after a home-team home run. Mistaking smoke for the paranormal is somewhat routine, especially when Minute Maid’s roof is closed, according to Peixoto.
While this may sound exactly like what a person covering up a haunting would say, let’s examine one more fact. The existence of ghosts at Astros game would seem to be a box-office draw, not something that would hurt attendance. Thus, there’s no reason to look a gift ghost in the eye and not capitalize.
In the end, the truth doesn’t matter. One person’s suspended smoke particles is another’s floating spirit.
