Eduardo Nunez played in his first All-Star Game earlier this month, and now he’s headed to a pennant race. The San Francisco Giants acquired the veteran infielder from the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night to bolster their lineup for a stretch run.

The Twins will receive 23-year-old Triple-A lefty Adalberto Mejia in exchange.

The 29-year-old Nunez had been a popular name on the trade market as he’s in the middle of a career-year. He is currently hitting .296 with 12 home runs, 47 RBIs and 26 stolen bases. His fWAR of 1.5 is a career-high.

Nunez will be arbitration-eligible this offseason and is set to be a free agent after the 2017 season, so the Giants got a guy under team control. This seems like a win for San Francisco, as the team with baseball’s second-best record (59-42) improved their versatility and lineup with an All-Star.
