Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Kellen Moore broke his ankle at training camp Tuesday, owner Jerry Jones confirmed. There is no immediate time table for his return.

The loss of Moore moves both Jameill Showers and rookie Dak Prescott up the depth chart for the time being. Nick Foles, a proven NFL entity, is currently a free agent.

Last week Jones said bringing in Foles was not an option. It will be interesting to see if Moore’s injury changes that stance.

The talent-rich Cowboys went 1-11 without Romo last year so the importance of a viable backup should be crystal clear.
