PETA Trying To Ban Monkey Rodeos From Minor League Baseball
By Ty Duffy
PETA sent a letter to Minor League Baseball calling on it to prohibit monkey rodeos at MiLB events, citing violations of the Animal Welfare Act by one of the leading proprietors.
As one can see from the above video, a “monkey rodeo” consists of monkeys strapped to herding dogs chasing animals around the field.
MiLB president Pat O’Connor, in a statement to PETA, encouraged clubs to not hire monkey rodeos or other acts that endanger animals, but did not call for an outright ban.
"“Minor League Baseball neither supports nor encourages the practice of using animal acts of any kind, especially animal acts for which the Humane Society has expressed serious concerns, to entertain our great fans,” “We encourage clubs to ensure that the promotions they host do not endanger the health or safety of any animal, but respect the rights of our teams to make decisions regarding their promotional events at the local level.”"
O’Connor, it seems, does not want to make Minor League Baseball sideshows great again.
