Rolando McClain’s NFL career is likely over. McClain, who has not reported to Cowboys training camp, is currently suspended for the first 10 games of the season. It was originally thought that marijuana had triggered McClain’s positive drug test, but multiple outlets are now reporting that it was opiates.

The Dallas Morning News reported that McClain allegedly has an addiction to opiates, stemming from consumption of “purple drank.” According to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole, McClain has put on nearly 40 pounds and is “incredibly out of shape.”

In 2013, McClain, then 23-years old, signed with the Baltimore Ravens and then retired a month later. Via ESPN:

"Months ago, he wasn’t so calm. “I was feeling like Aaron Hernandez or something,” he says, “like I just wanted to kill somebody.” He remembers watching Hernandez get hauled out of his house in handcuffs, later charged with first-degree murder, and being genuinely scared he’d end up the same way."

McClain returned to the NFL after a year off. He was suspended for the first 4 games of the 2015 season for a positive drug test.
