Everyone knows that you throw out the records when the Dayton Dragons and South Bend Cubs meet. Anything can — and tends to — happen, including bizarre deflections and umpire involvement. The Dragons used such wackiness last night to turn an unorthodox 1-6-3 double play that took a detour after striking the base umpire.

Look, there’s a big difference between the Chicago Cubs and their Single-A affiliate. But that said, If I’m a Cubs fan, it’s a bit concerning that freakish stuff like this is happening to any part of the organization. This is really supposed to be the year the 108-year drought becomes a thing of the past. Now is not the time for bad vibes from the paranormal world.
