Whitney Miller was named Miss United States in 2012. From there, she made the obvious decision to pursue a career in combat sports. On Thursday night she made her amateur boxing debut against River Fuller. Miller won a decision. [Update: Miller did not officially win a decision as this was an unsanctioned bout. Her amateur record remains 0-0.]
You can watch the fight here if you want. (The fight starts around 2-hours, 13-minutes in, though the sound isn’t synced with the video so…)
In 2014, Miller told MMA Junkie that she was doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu and had plans to give MMA a try. If it’s been over 2-years and she’s just starting amateur boxing, that might actually be a good sign that she’s taking a career in combat sports seriously and is not rushing into anything. So who knows. Maybe this was the start of something.
This is what FUN looks like! The great thing about this sport is at some point the talking stops and the fists take over! Wild night, wild journey! Props to @empire_atx for having the courage to come into my house and make this happen 👊🏼💜👊🏼 Photo Cred: @getlost.productions @jenni_gonzalez_atx @fried_monkey @onnit #fightnight #boxing #firstfight #sheonnit
