Carson Wentz Injury Latest Blow for Eagles Team that Could Be in Disarray

Since firing Chip Kelly, the Eagles have had a rough offseason. After they hired Doug Pederson as coach, he attempted to defend indefensible clock management from the Chiefs’ playoff loss. In the last week, news emerged that offensive tackle Lane Johnson, who they just signed for a big deal in January, looks like he is going to be suspended for 10 games. Today, the team announced that Carson Wentz has a hairline fracture in his ribs, and are hopeful that he is back “before the end of the preseason.”

Via Deadspin, here is the hit the injury happened on:

The Eagles have a lot of money tied up in Sam Bradford and backup Chase Daniel, and then traded a bunch of picks to the Browns to get Carson Wentz second overall in the Draft. (And when this happened, Bradford, the presumptive starter, pouted before returning to the team.)

While Wentz in all likelihood was not going to be the Eagles’ starting quarterback in the near future, it’s not good that he’s already on the shelf after just one preseason game. Certainly, anything can happen in the NFL, but, to my eyes, the Eagles have a bad vibe to them heading into the season.
