David Katoatau is a 5’5″, 205-pound weightlifter from Kiribati, a group of tiny islands, the home of just over 100,000 people, south of Hawaii, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I had never heard of that place or that guy before I saw this gif this morning.

Now I know where Kiribati is and I know that they sent three athletes to the 2016 Olympics and one of those athletes is David Katoatau. Katoatau finished 6th in the Men’s 105kg Group B final. Katoatau is awesome because he dances after every lift – successful or not. NBC has video of the celebrations. Katoatau says he dances to raise awareness of his country, which could be completely wiped out by climate change within the next 100 years.
