USMNT right back DeAndre Yedlin is transferring from Tottenham to Newcastle. It’s probably for the best.
Yedlin never got into the team at Tottenham, making one league appearance since signing in 2014. He made 21 starts on loan last season at Sunderland. Newcastle, just relegated, is a step down in competition for Yedlin. But, the plus side is he’s more likely to play consistently, which may be the most important thing.
The move has to make one wonder what is going on with U.S. player development. Geoff Cameron, 31, is now the only American born and developed non-goalkeeper on last summer’s Copa America squad playing regularly in one of Europe’s top four leagues.
