Joe West's Reflexes Aren't What They Used to Be
By Kyle Koster
Cowboy Joe West has been known to insert himself into a baseball game. Usually it’s with a balk call or by engaging with an upset player in the dugout. He found a new way to become the center of attention on Tuesday night by failing to get out of the way of a Wilson Contreras grounder up the middle.
West, who was stationed at second base, turned the routine single into a bizarre double thanks to a pair of lead shoes. The exit velocity on Contreras’ ball was 102 mph so it was moving, but West was standing about 140 feet away.
This really can’t happen again. Hope West is up early working agility drills.
